Hi all! On April 20, 2011 I announced the remodeling of the new GeometryCode website (and email bulletin) ... If you haven't already done so, I encourage you to take a few minutes and explore the new GeometryCode website and discover content both new and old. It's now even easier that before for me to add blog posts, since there really wasn't a blog section for GeometryCode before and now there is! I always welcome YOUR suggestions! :-)
Here's an example: making Dodecahedral luminaria (Origami lanterns) - a great construction project for kids, teachers and home-schoolers - courtesy of some local friends who made these which led to finding some already excellent articles other bloggers have written (why reinvent the wheel! :-)
If you are interested in sacred geometry workshops in the Ashland or Medford, Oregon area (or vicinity) please let me know! Here's my list of current and past events. If you have a local, regional (or global for that matter, as long as my expenses are covered) venue to suggest, please let me know that too!
2) Websites, Books, Videos, Imagery, Music and Quotes
Dave Van Dyke (a best friend since 7th grade!) of Z-axis Graphics created a stunning 3D animation (using 3DStudioMax) of three nested gilded Dodecadodecahedra. Check it out in the video/animation/movies sectiong of the home page of GeometryCode.com or on a larger YouTube window here. I really like how he was able to slowly dissolve the golden pentagonal faces by varying their opacity, while still leaving the outer pentagram faces which gradually reveals and then conceals the two inner nested copies of the polyhedron. Thanks, Dave!
Here's Dave's notes for any 3DStudioMax dabblers...
The dodecadodecahedron was created and animated using 3DS Max. If you intend to animate the "P" and "Q" parameters of the Hedra you must use the Edit Mesh modifier. The Edit Poly modifier will not work. The nice Glow effect is an option in the Mental Ray renderer found under the Renderer Tab. The frame is formed by making a copy of the dodecadodecahedron and applying the Lattice modifier. The material assigned to the dodecadodecahedron is a Multi/subObject material. The material for the star faces and the remainder of the dodecadodecahedron are the same. Having two materials that are the same allows you to take control of the transparency of one selection set of polygons leaving the others unaffected.
Check out Ed Kellogg's article on a Mathematical Universe Hypothesis which was the result of an email dialogue with several fellow local geometers. We whimsically call our group the "hedronists" :-)
3) Request for Submissions
If you would like to stay connected and network with kindred souls online, check out my pages on Twitter, LinkedIn and FaceBook. I'm enjoying connecting with both recent and long-time friends and colleagues and discovering new friends of friends :-)
As always, please let me know how I can support you. Please send me any interesting items about sacred geometry or related interests ... since everything is interrelated!
Thanks for your interest & support! :-)
"win-win" way to cross-promote your work as well.
