I will be a Presenter at the 2012 Froebel USA Conference, giving a Keynote (multimedia) presentation on The Geometry of Interconnectedness and Inclusion; here is a link to register. My presentation will be a 1-hour audiovisual talk among other presentations that weekend (schedule TBA) held at the South San Francisco Conference Center, SF, Calif. (map). I’m very much looking forward to this event (thanks to Scott Bultman for the invitation!) and will include some new imagery and insights not given publicly before in prior presentations.
Synchronistically, I was just talking with some neighbors yesterday about the Great Pyramid (at Giza, Egypt) and it reminded me of a speech I gave in a Rhetoric class at UC Davis (Calif.) where I referred to the Transamerica Pyramid, shown in the center of the skyline in the photo above. This latter pyramid is taller, but is dwarfed by the acreage and bulk of it’s Egyptian inspiration.

Zometool sculpture at Denver Art Museum
We finally made it back to the Denver Art Museum (which easily deserves a couple of days to see the neat collection there) and made a bee-line for the newly installed Zometool creation in the downstairs lobby next to the gift store.
I wrote most recently about this geometric sculpture in this earlier blog post. It was fun to see this splendid geometric model in person! :-) The photos above show the sculpture face on (upper photo), and edge-on (lower photo).
Zometool is a great complement to, and ideal model building system for the designs in Sacred Geometry Design Sourcebook.
Jeff Volk – Cymatics and water presentation
Jeff Volk of CymaticSource – carrying on the pioneering Cymatics work of Hans Jenny – will give a live presentation on Cymatics and water at The Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, Massachusetts on Earth Day, Sunday, April 22, 2012.
Fellow geometer and engineer Adam Reed has worked with several others to develop an amazing instrument, the Cymaglyph which produces stunningly beautiful Cymatic imagery (both still and video) which the photos above represent.

Doug Craft’s Convergence of Photography, Collage and Music has a bit of retro eclectic art with a bit of golden proportions and fractals.
Adrian Rossiter has an updated version of his Antiprism Polyhedron Modelling Software which enables one to create, transform, analyze, and visualize polyhedra. Here are a few neat geometric models he’s made with his software.
Our original Sacred Geometry Tutorial page has a new Haitian Creole translation by Web Geek Science. If you know of other translations, or someone who would like to make one, please let me know.

Another example of using Zometool components to make the models in SGDS.
This is another image from the backlog of photos of how Zometool is a great complement to, and ideal model building system for the designs in Sacred Geometry Design Sourcebook. This image is a cutaway – mostly because I ran out of parts for this elaborate model :-) static version of this animation of the Nested Platonics Recursion, which is, as far as I know, the tightest packing of a recursive nest of the five Platonic Solids.

Here is a neat video of six rotations of a transparent tesseract. A tesseract (a.k.a. hypercube) is a 4-dimensional cube. I like to imagine that a 4-dimensional object casts a 3-dimensional shadow, just as a 3-dimensional object casts a 2-dimensional shadow. It’s still a bit boggling to grok, as our belief system only encompasses 3-dimensional dreams, so stretching our mental hologram to a 4-dimensional is usually met with resistance and confusion; how could we have another experience with such a finite premise! :-)
Speaking of backlogs, I have a goodly number of cool links to online videos, articles and more; so I ask for your patience, please. I’ll have lots more in the February edition. I’ve caught up on other projects this month. LOTS of great updates in store! :-)

Zometool Factory and Denver Art Museum project
Recently, I had the pleasure of visiting the Zometool factory in Longmont, Colorado.
There, my favorite (hands down!) geometric toy, er, I mean modeling system, is manufactured. Paul and Carlos gave me a tour of the amazing technology where these wonderful plastic components are made by the gazillions. The secret of the hub, rumor has it, is the trained microscopic radiolaria that already understand the necessary geometry and amazingly eat away the parts of the hub that don’t look Zome-ish. You’re not buying that idea? Oh well… maybe there’s more to it than that… :-)
The primary purpose of the day’s festivities was to begin assembling circular ‘rosettes’ (note the white quasi-circular shapes with 6 yellow hubs in some of the photos) to be further assembled into a new art piece for the Denver Art Museum. (Stay tuned for updates on the blog page.) Here are a few photos from the fun, collaborative day with great music provided by Paul’s daughter Lizzy, and excellent Zometool assembling fuel provided by Carlos and others. I’m looking forward to seeing the finished project at the Denver Art Museum! :-)
Zometool builds models from SGDS
Zometool, with the addition of green struts, can build many of the designs – both 2 and 3 dimensional – that appear in the pages of Sacred Geometry Design Sourcebook (SGDS) and other 2D and 3D models. Now, more than ever, this superlative modeling system (which is also the coolest toy in the geometric Universe, in my opinion) is a fabulous complement to Sacred Geometry Design Sourcebook.
The green struts allow for square root of 2 proportions relative to blue struts, which allow shapes like tetrahedra, octahedra, star tetrahedra, several more Archimedean Solids and MUCH more to be built. Amazing how adding another proportional system to the prior version seems to add many dimensions to the possibilities. (BTW, the feline model within the model is Cooper, our new kitten.)
Here are examples of some of Zometool models that appear in the pages of Sacred Geometry Design Sourcebook. I’ll be adding to these as I go on, so look for announcements in the monthly bulletin about updates to this page. This example, from page 236, shows the 2-D projection of icosahedral and dodecahedral cross-sections, and the underlying golden rectangle and golden-ratio-based geometric proportions.
